AIDS Awareness Fair on Irving Street

aids_fair_walgreensOn June 21, 2014, the Walgreens store on Irving Street and 22nd Avenue held an AIDS Awareness Fair. The event highlighted local support for the “Together We Are Greater than AIDS” campaign. People walking on Irving Street on a brisk Saturday checked out the booths in the Walgreens parking lot.

AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) is a disease that weakens the human immune system. As a result, people with AIDS are unable to fight off various infections that can lead to death. There is no known cure for AIDS. Global campaigns are held to inform people about how the disease is spread. San Francisco has experienced a heightened awareness of the disease due to well-publicized records of early AIDS cases in the 1980s.
