“Blessing” Scam Awareness Campaign

self_help_sunset_01On Friday, November 21, 2014 Captain Lum, Sergeant Mannix, and Officer Lai of Taraval Station visited the Self Help For the Elderly Center at the South Sunset Playground. The goal of the visit was to join District 4 Supervisor Katy Tang and Mason Lee of SF SAFE (Safety Awareness For Everyone) in a presentation about the recent “Blessing” scam that specifically targets senior citizens of Chinese descent.

Captain Lum, Sergeant Mannix, and Officer Lai listened to concerns and questions by members of the elderly Chinese community. They assured our valuable senior citizens that Cantonese and other language interpreters are available to help in the police department.

Officer Lai and Sergeant Mannix handed out reusable grocery bags imprinted in Chinese about the “Blessing” scam. The bags were also given out in the previous day on Irving Street.
