A Bicycle Reunited with Its Rightful Owner

recovered_bikeOn a leisurely Saturday on November 8, 2014, a man held a garage sale on Lincoln Way. By the late afternoon, he moved his unsold items into the garage. During then, a thief saw an opportunity to steal the man’s prized bicycle and flee. The man realized his bicycle was taken, and reported the theft to Taraval officers. The man had photos of his bicycle that he was able to provide.

About a week later, the man saw his bicycle on eBay. Taraval investigators contacted the seller. The seller immediately cooperated with the investigation and was willing to meet the Taraval investigators. The seller said he bought the bicycle at a swap meet. The seller brought the bicycle to Taraval Station on Tuesday, November 25, 2014. In the end, the owner was reunited with his prized bicycle.

Taraval officers and investigators are glad to see the return of this particular bicycle. However there are countless stolen bicycles that have yet to be returned to their rightful owners. We encourage our Taraval community members to check-out helpful tips on preventing bicycle theft at www.safebikes.org.
