Taraval CPAB Tour of SFPD Marine Unit

cpab_boat_ride_1April 22, 2015 – Captain Lum, Sergeant Mannix, & members of the Taraval CPAB (Community Police Advisory Board) took a tour of the SFPD Marine Unit. They also got a first hand look at the various equipment used by the expertly trained members of the Unit.

Sworn members of the Marine Unit are handpicked, & undergo a rigorous screening process. A candidate officer must demonstrate waterborne abilities before he or she is considered for a position in the Unit. These officers are also responsible for equipment & vessels valued at millions of dollars. In addition to law enforcement duties, the Marine Unit is tasked with search and rescue, high profile event security, & underwater operations. They work in collaboration with other agencies such as the US Coast Guard. As a result, they are qualified to serve in Homeland Security operations.

Taraval CPAB members also took in the scenery of the beautiful San Francisco Bay on one of the Marine Unit’s vessels. They were probably on one of the safest boat rides of their lives thanks to the outstanding officers of the Marine Unit.
