2015_natl_police_weekNational Police Week

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week as National Police Week. National Police week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Ceremonies to honor fallen law enforcement officers will be held in Washington D.C. and state capitols around the United States.

The SFPD will participate in these ceremonies. On May 4, 2015, Officers from the San Francisco Police Department will travel to Sacramento to pay our respects to the 13 California peace officers who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2014. We do this to remember the sacrifice these officers and their families have made. We do this to remember Officer Bryan Tuvera. He was working at Taraval Police Station when he was shot by an escaped convict on December 22, 2006. He was 28 years old when he died the next day.
